What is a domain name?

5 January 2015 (last update: 5 January 2015 at 11:54 hrs)

A domain name is the internet address of your website. Typing a domain name in a browser is like dialling the phone number of a business.

If the name of your business is "My Business", then it's a good idea to match your domain name with your business name "mybusiness.com". This is especially true if your domain name consists of keywords people would use to find your business. As an example, if your name is Smith and you sell car parts, then smithcarparts.com would be a good choice.

You can create emails using your domain name, like info@mybusiness.com, john@mybusiness.com and jane@mybusiness.com.
