What is a broken link?

15 May 2015 (last update: 15 May 2015 at 11:36 hrs)

A broken or dead link is a link that leads nowhere. It leeds to a webpage that can not be found.

This may occur if a web page is:

  • deleted
  • renamed
  • moved to another location

A broken link can be:

  • an internal link ("from" and "to" are on the same domain name)
  • an external link (from one website (domain name) to another website)

A broken internal link could be in the navigation bar of the website. A broken external link could be a reference or a citation to an article on a web page on another website, a page that can no longer be found.
